What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy, which is also known as PT or physiotherapy, involves performing certain exercises to help improve mobility, flexibility and strength. It can also help reduce back, neck and body pain. Depending on your specific needs, it can be used to heal current injuries or to prevent future injuries.

How does physical rehabilitation help me recover?

When muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and soft tissues are injured, weak or diseased, they cannot adequately support the body and aide in movement. By performing certain rehabilitation exercises and stretches with the instruction and aide of our physical therapist, you will slowly improve your strength and flexibility, and you pain will gradually be reduced.

Can physical therapy help me with my sciatica pain?

Sciatica is a type of chronic pain. It occurs when the sciatic nerve is pinched, compressed or inflamed, and it causes lower back pain, radiating pain that can extend into one or both legs, burning sensations, numbness and trouble walking. Physical therapy can teach you exercises to help reduce your inflammation and strengthen your back. If your sciatica is caused by herniated discs, we can teach you exercises that will pull the disc off your nerve to reduce your pain.

Can physical rehabilitation help with my chronic back pain?

Physical rehabilitation can help reduce chronic pain. When the muscles are weak and ligaments and tendons tight, they do not function properly, and pain is the most likely result. By strengthening your back and core muscles, they will be better able to support your spine, which helps improve flexibility and stamina. Strengthening weak muscles in the legs can make walking and performing your daily tasks easier.

I have a knee injury. Can physical therapy help lower my pain and improve the joint’s function?

Having weak thigh muscles can affect the function of the knee, causing pain and loss of range of motion. Physical therapy can help you strengthen your thigh muscles and improve the flexibility of the joint. Exercise may include squats, leg extensions and certain stretches.

How soon can I expect results?

Each person’s injuries are different, which impact treatment length and recovery time. Our physical therapist will perform a full physical evaluation and ask you about your goals. Your current injuries, physical stamina and abilities along with your individual goals will be used to create your treatment plan. You may notice an improvement in your chronic pain and flexibility after your first few sessions. As you improve, your treatment plan will be adjusted.
